Alarming Escalation of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

I was asked to speak to concerned citizens of Brantford, Norwich, Rockton and Dunnville at a series of Special Forums on the alarming escalation of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). I was joined by my colleagues, MP Ed Fast, MP Michael Cooper, MP Tako van Popta and MP Leslyn Lewis.

There is clear reason for concern about this expansion, slated for March 2024. And it’s not just Conservatives raising alarm – mental health experts and psychologists across the country have made it clear: this cannot be implemented safely and determining irremediability is highly subjective. Doctors being asked to implement this have admitted the risk can range from 2% to 95% when trying to get it right. This is not an acceptable level of risk!
