Town of Truro held an Emancipation Day Event

August 6, 2023, the Town of Truro held an Emancipation Day Event.

Emancipation Day is August 1st and this year marks 189th anniversary of the official law, The Slavery Abolition Act, in which millions of African people were freed from slavery within the British Empire.

There are many ways you, your family and friends can recognize this very important day in history.

One of the most effective ways is sitting down and talking about the history as well as current issues that affect African Nova Scotians. By having these conversations within our community, we can help ensure history is never repeated.
